Correspondence between autistic adults’ abilities and occupations
A key innovation within the JobAut methodology is the establishment of a structured correspondence between functional abilities, as described through the ICF, and occupational requirements.
This correspondence allows job coaches to move beyond generic or intuitive matching processes and to base their decisions on a systematic comparison between the individual’s functional profile and the demands of specific job roles.
In practical terms, this means identifying which ICF domains are particularly relevant for a given occupation and then analysing whether the individual’s profile aligns with these requirements. For example, certain jobs may require sustained attention, predictable routines, or limited social interaction, while others may involve complex communication, multitasking, or exposure to sensory stimuli.
By using the ICF as a common reference point, the methodology ensures that this comparison is both structured and transparent. The result is a more accurate and evidence-based identification of suitable job opportunities, reducing the risk of mismatch and increasing the likelihood of successful and sustainable employment.
